Abstract

Currently, most corporations are confronting ever changing and competitive management environments and endeavoring to secure superior business advantages to survive in the marketplace. In other words, they need to minimize the possibility of risks arising from the uncertainty of business environments and thus to improve their organizational cultures that are more likely to be objective oriented. MBO approaches are evaluated to be effective as they can contribute to the creation of consistent and shared organizational objectives that can facilitate the clear division of jobs and the rational administration of tasks among organizational members. The first hypothesis, that is, uncertainty of environments will have a positive effect on characteristics of MBO, was accepted in the study. Among others, the objectives setting factor had the strongest effect on the overall characteristics of MBO. The second hypothesis that characteristics of MBO will have a positive effect on job performance, was also accepted. Most of all, the objectives evaluating factor had the greatest effect on job performance. Hypothesis number three, that is, uncertainty of environments will have a positive effect on job performance, was accepted as well. In specific, the competitiveness factor had the strongest effect on job performance. The fourth hypothesis stating that characteristics of MBO will have a positive effect on the relationship between uncertainty of environments and job performance, was also accepted. Particularly, the objectives evaluating factor had a significant effect on the relationship between them, which indicates that management by objectives should be an important corporation business strategy under uncertainty of management environments.
