본 논문은 현재 세계적으로 부상하고 있는 극우정당 현상의 지역 사례로서 이탈리아극우정당을 분석하고 있다. 2022년 총선에서 승리한 이탈리아형제당(FdI)과 멜로니(Meloni) 총리의 출범으로 100년만의 파시즘 체제의 귀환으로 세계의 이목을 집중시켰던 이탈리아 사례이다. 유럽 국가 중에서도 극우정당의 역사가 가장 오래되었으며, 1920년대 파시즘의 시대를 열기도 했던 이탈리아 극우의 역사와 실체는 한국 사회에도많은 시사점을 제공할 수 있다. 이탈리아 극우정당 연구를 통해 현대 극우정당의지역적 특성과 다양성을 살펴보고, 한국사회 시사점을 비교하고자 한다. 이를 위해본 논문은 이탈리아 극우 정당의 기원과 역사 속에서 이탈리아 극우 개념을 형성할수 있었던 5가지 요소를 설명한다. 이러한 배경을 바탕으로 2000년대 이후 이탈리아정치 상황과 정치 갈등이 초래된 다양한 현상을 분석한다. 결론적으로 이탈리아 극우정당의 독특한 특징과 요인들을 정의하면서 이탈리아 극우 정당과 정치 갈등을 설명하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes Italy’s far-right political parties as a case study of the far-right phenomenon that is currently gaining prominence worldwide. Italy drew global attention when the Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia, FdI) won the 2022 general election and Giorgia Meloni became Prime Minister, an event widely perceived as marking the return of a fascist regime after a century. Among European countries, Italy has the longest history of far-right parties, being the birthplace of fascism in the 1920s. The history and nature of Italy’s far-right politics also carry significant implications for Korean society. This study uses the case of Italy’s far-right parties to examine the diversity of contemporary far-right movements. To this end, the paper comprises four chapters. First, it examines the origins and history of Italy’s far-right parties, focusing on five key elements that defined the concept of the Italian far right. Second, it analyzes the various factors that undermined Italy’s national identity and explores the political situation and conflicts since the 2000s. Third, it investigates whether the current far-right rule can be interpreted solely in terms of political conflict and division. Fourth, it aims to define the uniquely Italian characteristics of the far right and explain the country’s far-right parties and political conflicts in light of these elements.
