자연어처리 원리 중심 인공지능 융합 영어 읽기 수업 설계원리 개발

최근 인공지능 리터러시 함양을 위한 수업으로 인공지능 융합 수업이 주목받고 있다. 인공지능의 하위 영역 중 자연어처리는 인간의 언어 능력을 모방하고자 발전해 온 기술로 영어 교과와 밀접한 관련이 있으며, 영어 학습과 인공지능 리터러시를 함양할 수 있는 잠재력을 지닌다. 본 연구는 자연어처리원리를 중심으로 인공지능 융합 영어 수업을 설계할 수 있는 수업 설계원리와 상세지침을 개발하고그 타당성을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선행문헌 검토 및 전문가 면담을 통해 설계원리를 도출하고 전문가 검토를 통해 설계원리를 수정하였다. 중학교 3학년 학습자 20명을 대상으로 설계원리를 적용하고 인공지능 리터러시, 영어 학습 흥미도에 대한 사전․사후 검사, 설문조사, 면담을 실시하여 외적 타당화를 거쳤다. 그 결과 6개의 설계원리와 21개의 상세지침을 도출하였으며, 이를 적용한 수업은인공지능 리터러시 및 영어 읽기 태도 향상에 대한 긍정적 효과를 보였다. 본 연구는 인공지능 기술을 영어 교과의 학습 목표를 달성하기 위해 활용하는 것에 그치지 않고, 인공지능의 개념 및 원리에대한 깊이 있는 이해와 영어 학습 내용 간의 융합을 시도했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 영어 교과에서 자연어처리를 주제로 한 인공지능 융합 수업의 가능성에 대한 시사점을 제공한다. 한편, 본 연구는단일 학급을 대상으로 효과성을 확인하였으며, 자연어처리 기술 중 워드 임베딩 개념을 중심으로 수업이 진행되었다는 점에서 일반화에 한계가 있다. 향후 연구에서는 자연어처리의 다양한 하위 개념및 기술이 포함된 수업 내용과 대규모 학습자 대상의 검증을 통해 외적 타당성이 보완될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Recently, AI-integrated classes have gained attention as an approach to fostering AI literacy. Natural language processing (NLP) has developed through efforts to emulate human language abilities and thus shares strong relevance with English education, holding potential to promote both English learning and AI literacy. This study aims to develop and validate instructional design principles for designing AI-integrated English classes centered on NLP principles. To this end, instructional design principles were derived through a review of previous literature and expert interviews, and subsequently refined through expert validation. The principles were applied to 20 third-year middle school students, and external validation was conducted through pre- and post-tests, surveys, and interviews examining AI literacy and interest in English learning. As a result, six instructional design principles and twenty-one detailed guidelines were developed, and the applied lessons demonstrated positive effects on AI literacy and attitudes toward English reading. This study attempts not merely to use AI technologies to achieve English curriculum goals, but to integrate an in-depth understanding of AI concepts and principles with English learning content, offering implications for the potential of NLP-based AI-integrated English instruction. However, this study examined effectiveness within a single class and focused mainly on word embeddings among various NLP concepts, indicating limitations in generalizability. Future research should incorporate broader NLP components and conduct large-scale evaluations to strengthen external validity.
