王夫之(1619-1692)는 명말청초의 저명한 사상가이자 경학자이다. 그는 실증적 관점으로 기존 관념론의 비현실성을 비판하고 실천적 氣哲學을 계승 발전시키면서, 구체적 현실 문제를 해결할 실천적 이론 체계를 확립하고자 하였다. 근대전환기에 이르러 郭鍾錫(1846-1919)이 왕부지의 경설을 접하면서 경학 연구에 활용하였다. 이는 근대전환기 한국 학계에 미친 명말청초 학술의 영향력을 점검하는 유용한 단서가 된다. 이에 경서별로 그 수용 양상을 분석해보았다. 첫째, 춘추설 수용의 사례로 ‘據實直書’와 ‘以傳解經’이 있다. 이는 실증적 관점에서 기존 春秋胡氏傳의 주관적 褒貶說을 비판하고 합리적 해석을 제시한 것인데, 곽종석이 그 고증적 방식을 지지한 것이다. 둘째, 시경설 수용의 사례로 ‘현실적 해석’이 있다. 이는 현실적 관점에서 기존 詩經集傳의 신화적 해석을 비판한 것인데, 곽종석이 그 현실성을 지지한 것이다. 셋째, 맹자설 수용의 사례로 ‘문자학적 해석’이 있다. 이는 문자학적 관점에서 기존 孟子集註의 미비 된 해석을 보완하기 위해 역대 문자학 관련 문헌을 참고해 글자의 본의를 규명한 것인데, 곽종석이 그 실증성을 긍정한 것이다. 이로써 곽종석 경학의 실증적 성향에 왕부지 설이 적지 않은 영향을 미쳤음을 짐작해볼 수 있다.
Abstract
Wang Fuzhi was a renowned thinker and classicist during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. He criticized the unreality of existing idealism from an empirical perspective and developed a practical philosophy of Qi. This was intended to establish a practical theoretical system to solve specific real-world problems. Gwak Jong-seok is one of neo-confucian scholar at the turn of the modern era of korea. he encountered Wang Bu-ji's commentaries and used them in his classical studies. This provides a useful clue to examine the influence of scholarship of late Ming and early Qing on Korean academia. After researching the Collection of Gwak Jong-seok's commentaries, we can see the following facts. First, Cases of acceptance of the Chunqiu(春秋)'s theory by Wang Fuzhi, such as ‘Record the facts truthfully’, ‘Using Commentaries to Interpret the Classics’. This is a criticism of the existing subjective interpretation from an empirical perspective and a presentation of a rational interpretation. Second, Cases of acceptance of the ShiJing(詩經)'s theory, such as ‘Interpretation of Realism’. This criticizes the existing mythological interpretation from a realistic perspective and presents a rational interpretation. Third, Cases of acceptance of the Mencius(孟子)'s theory, such as ‘Interpretation of Grammatology’. This is to clarify the original meaning of the text to supplement the existing insufficient interpretation.
