Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of wearing a wearable device for 8 weeks on thephysical activity and health of elementary school students. The subjects of the study were 52 5th gradestudents (male: 27, female: 25) at B Elementary School in Seoul, where the researcher is working. TheStudent Health and Physical Fitness Assessment System (PAPS) was used as a survey tool to confirm. Among the ten items of the four factors of PAPS, reflexes not included in the category of health andfitness were excluded, and one event for each factor was selected and evaluated. The wearable deviceused in this study was the LS01 product of HAYLOU, and in this study, daily steps and weekly activitywere measured. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. Among the effects of wearabledevice wearing for 8 weeks on physical activity of elementary school students, there was a statisticallysignificant difference in sedentary life time (p < .01). There were no significant differences in theremaining areas (walking, moderate-intensity exercise, and high-intensity exercise) except for this. However, looking at the average value, the average value of the experimental group wearing thewearable device was higher than that of the control group. As a result of a health physicalexamination to determine the effect of wearing a wearable device on the physical activity ofelementary school students for 8 weeks, in the experimental group, the right grip force (p < .01), theleft grip force (p < .01), and sit-up bending ( There were statistically significant differences in p < .001)and BMI (p < .001), and there was no statistically significant difference in round-trip long runs. Looking at the average difference between the experimental group and the control group, it can beseen that the average of the experimental group rose slightly more than the control group in all otheritems except for round-trip long running. Wearable devices can be said to have a great effect whenthey want to wear them. It will be important to teach students the importance of regular physicalactivity and how to maintain behavioral changes when using wearable devices to increase theautonomous motivation of self-determination theory.
