명사구 접근가능성 계층(NPAH)에 기반한 한국어 학습자 관계절 습득 연구

초록

이 연구는 언어유형론적 접근으로 Keenan & Comrie(1977)에서 제기한 NPAH 계층을 한국어 관계절에 적용하여 검증함으로써 NPAH가 한국어 학습자의 관계절 습득에 설명력이 있는지에 대한 추가적인 검증 결과를 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 한국어 고급 학습자와 모어 화자 통제 집단을 대상으로 문법성 판단 테스트로 실험을 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 한국어 관계절에서 관계화에 접근 가능한 명사구의 문법적 기능에 대한 학습자들의 습득 순서는 “IO > DO > SU > OBL”로 나타나 SU 위치에서의 관계절 습득이 DO보다 더 용이하다고 주장하는 NPAH 계층을 따르지 않음을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 실험 결과가 제2언어 습득 연구에서 한국어 학습자들의 관계절 습득 현상과 NPAH 계층에 대한 검증 자료로 보태어질 수 있는 데에 의의가 있을 것이다.

Abstract

This study, as a linguistic typological approach, applies and verifies the NPAH hierarchical structure proposed by Keenan & Comrie (1977) to relative clauses, thereby providing additional results on whether NPAH can explain the phenomenon of Korean learners' acquisition of relative clauses acquisition. To this end, an experiment was conducted through a grammatical judgment test targeting Korean learners and a control group of Korean native speakers. As a result of the study, the order of learners' acquisition of the grammatical function of noun phrase accessibility hierarchy in Korean relative clauses was “IO > DO > SU > OBL”, showing that it does not follow the NPAH hierarchy, which claims that acquisition of the relative clauses at the SU position is easier than the DO. The experimental results of this study will be meaningful in that they can be added as verification data for the acquisition of relative clauses and the NPAH hierarchy of Korean learners in second language acquisition research.
