제2언어로서의 한국어 관형화 습득 연구 -중국인 학습자를 대상으로-

이 논문은 중국인 학습자를 대상으로 한국어 관형화 습득 양상을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 관형화 습득을 설명하기 위해 제시되어온 명사구접근가능성위계 가설은, 2003년에 발표된 O’Grady, Lee & Choo의 논문 이후, 꾸준히 한국어 연구에 적용되어왔으나, 그 실험의 결과는 자못 상충되는 결과를 보여주었다. 이 연구는 기존 연구에서는 시도되지 않았던 문법성판단 실험을 통해서 명사구접근가능성위계 가설이 한국어의 관형화 습득 양상을 설명할 수 있는지 여부를 살펴보았다. 중국인 중·고급 학습자를 대상으로 한 본 실험의 결과에 따르면, 주어, (직접)목적어, 사격어의 관형화에 있어 모어 화자와 한국어 학습자의 차이는 통계적으로 유의하나, 학습자 집단 간, 또 핵명사의 내포문 내 기능 간에는 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 얻지 못하여, 명사구접근위계가능성 가설로 한국어 관형화 습득을 설명하기는 어렵다는 것이었다. 또한, 문법성판단 실험을 통해 관형화 치환을 정확히 판단해 낸 피험자의 각 집단별 백분율을 비교한 결과, 주어와 목적어 관형화의 경우, 수준에 따른 향상 효과는 나타나지 않았으나, 사격어의 경우에는 현저히 낮은 비율을 보였는데, 이는 모어 화자에서도 하강 효과를 보인다는 점에서 명사구접근위계 가설을 입증한다고 결론내리기 어려웠다.

Abstract

This study explores the role of the Noun Phrase Accessibility Hypothesis (NPAH), which was originally proposed by Keenan and Comrie (1977), in the explanation of L2 aquisition of Korean relativization. After O’Grady et al. (2003), many papers have dealt with the problem. However, their results show mixed results. Some papers, including O’Grady et al. (2003), clearly show that the NPAH is followed in the acquisition of Korean relatives, but other papers show that the L2 acuisition of Korean follows a different path. Here, we adopt a grammaticality judgment task,which has not been scrutinized in the L2 research of Korean relatives, to test the NPAH in the L2 acquisition of Korean. The participants at our experiment were 25 Chinese learners of Korean. Our results reveals that subject relatives do not develop earlier than direct object relatives, and that there were no statistically significant differences among, subject, direct object,and oblique relatives. It also shows that the accuracy rate of grammaticality judgments on oblique relatives was lower than the one on subject or direct object relatives, but it was also found in the case of native speakers’ judgments.
