Este estudio analiza las actitudes de los habitantes de la zona metropolitana de Paraguay hacia la educación del guaraní, explorando los factores sociales que influyen en su percepción. A partir de un cuestionario autoadministrado compuesto con preguntas abiertas, se identificaron patrones de aceptación y rechazo hacia la enseñanza del guaraní en el sistema educativo. Aunque no se hallaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas según variables demográficas como el sexo, la edad o la ocupación, los resultados sugieren una valoración compartida del guaraní en todos los sectores analizados. Asimismo, se destaca la necesidad de adaptar la enseñanza del guaraní a las formas lingüísticas realmente usadas por la población, incluyendo referencias al uso del yopará. En base a estos hallazgos, el trabajo concluye con recomendaciones para fortalecer la política lingüística educativa del país desde una perspectiva funcional, cultural e inclusiva, promoviendo una mayor coherenca entre el guaraní escolar y las realidades comunicativas de la sociedad paraguaya.
Abstract
This study examines the attitudes of residents in the metropolitan area of Paraguay toward Guarani language education, exploring the social factors that influence their perceptions. Based on a self-administered questionnaire composed of open-ended questions, the research identifies patterns of acceptance and resistance concerning the teaching of Guarani in the formal education system. Although no statistically significant differences were found according to demographic variables such as sex, age, or occupation, the findings reveal a broadly shared appreciation of Guarani across all social sectors analyzed. Moreover, the study highlights the need to adapt Guarani instruction to the linguistic forms actually used by the population, including references to yopará, a mixed variety commonly employed in everyday communication. In light of these findings, the study concludes with recommendations to strengthen Paraguay's language education policy from a functional, cultural, and inclusive perspective, promoting a closer alignment between school-based Guarani and the communicative realities of contemporary Paraguayan society.
