조향의 창작방법은 ‘자동기술법에 의한 속기’, ‘몽타주를 통한 조립’ 두 단계로 이루어진다. 그래서 조향 시를 이해하기 위해서는 자동기술법 못지않게 몽타주를 살펴야 한다. 필자는 아미엘의 몽타주 이론을 바탕으로 조향 시에 사용된 두 종류의 몽타주를 각각 대응 몽타주와 담론 몽타주로 명명하고, 이 몽타주들을 바탕으로 조향 초현실주의 시를 두 유형으로 나누어 분석하였다. 대응 몽타주가 사용된 시들에서 조향은 무의식에서 취한 제재들의 불연속성을 부각시키는 방향으로 이미지들을 조립한다. 여기서 의미는 만들어지지 않는다. 대신 의미의 속박으로부터 해방될 때 느낄 수 있는 자유의 정서가 창출된다. 그리고 이 몽타주는 이성 중심의 현실에서 배제된 또 다른 현실이 잠재해 있음을 환기시키면서 현실을 새롭게 지각하게 한다. 대응 몽타주는 선행연구에서 주목하지 못한 몽타주이지만, 조향의 초현실주의 지향을 부각시키는 몽타주다. 담론 몽타주가 사용된 시들에서 조향은 전체를 규제하는 통일적인 의미가 드러나도록 불연속적인 이미지들을 조립한다. 이 시들은 무의식의 이미지들 중 현대의 부정성과 거기에 관통당한 주체의 트라우마를 환기시키는 이미지들을 선별하여 조립하는 방법을 통해 ‘현대의 상황악 비판’이라는 시적 의미를 만들어낸다. 담론 몽타주는 이러한 시인의 담론을 드러내기에 적합한 몽타주다. 어떠한 몽타주를 사용하느냐에 따라 조향의 시에는 두 유형의 초현실주의 시가 존재한다. 조향은 상이한 효과를 창출하는 몽타주들을 자유자재로 활용하면서 초현실주의 시의 영역을 확충해나간 시인이다.
Abstract
To understand Cho Hyang's poetry, we must examine montage as much as automatism. Based on Vincent Amiel's theory of montage, the author examined the montage used in Cho Hyang's poetry. In Cho Hyang's poetry, two types of montage are used. In this paper, they are named correspondence montage and discourse montage, respectively. And based on these montages, Cho Hyang's surrealist poetry was divided into two types and analyzed. The correspondence montage highlights the poet's poetic orientation of 'freedom from the constraints of reality.' And the discourse montage highlights the poet’s poetic orientation of ‘criticism of modern darkness.’ Depending on the type of montage used, there are two types of surrealist poetry in the poem. Cho Hyang is a poet who skillfully utilizes heterogeneous montages and has expanded the realm of surrealist poetry. To understand Cho Hyang's poetry, it is necessary to understand the nature of this montage.
