생태학적 전환을 위한 미술교육 접근으로서 ‘존재 감각적 만들기': 팀 잉골드의 '만들기(making)' 개념에 대한 철학적 고찰

본 연구는 미술에서의 ‘만들기’ 개념을 철학적으로 고찰함으로써, 미술이 낯선 타자의 ‘있음’을 감각하고 그에 조응하는 연습을 가능하게 하는 활동의 한 양식임을 밝히고, 그것이 생태학적 전환을 가능케 하는 교육의 한 원리가 될 수 있음을 제안한다. 이는 미술의 물질적이고 활동적인 차원에 주목하는 시도로, 현재 교육에서 요청되고 있는 ‘생태학적 전환’을 인식론이나 교과의 문제로가 아니라, 우리의 ‘존재 방식’에 관한 문제로 바라보려는 시도이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 인류학자 팀 잉골드의 ‘만들기’ 개념을 통해 근대적 의미의 ‘제작’으로 축소된 미술에서의 만들기 활동을 ‘존재 감각적 만들기’로 새롭게 정식화하고, 그것이 미술의 고유성을 어떻게 새롭게 드러내며 생태학적 전환에 함의점을 제공하는지 탐구한다. 연구 결과, 확장된 ‘만들기’ 개념은 다음 세 방식으로 미술교육을 재구성한다. 첫째, 미술은 ‘예술 언어’의 습득이 아닌 ‘물질적 사유’를 연습하는 과정으로 이해된다. 둘째, 미술은 관계적 행위에의 노출 속에서 ‘겪기-안-하기’를 연습하는 실천으로 재해석된다. 셋째, 미술은 ‘표현’ 활동에서 ‘각인’ 활동으로 전환되어 이해된다. 이는 미술교육을 ‘이질적인 존재로서의 세계에 우리의 몸-감각을 열어 단단한 자아의 경계를 허물고, 타자와 관계 맺는 존재 방식을 연습하는 실천’으로 재개념화 하도록 우리를 이끈다.
Abstract
This study explores the concept of "making" in art from a philosophical perspective, elucidating how art functions as a mode of activity for perceiving the presence of the Other and corresponding to it. It further proposes that this understanding of art can serve as a foundational principle for education that facilitates an ecological trun, not as an epistemological or curricular issue, but as a question concerning our ways of being. Drawing on Tim Ingold’s concept of “making,” the study reformulates the traditional notion of making in art—commonly reduced to a modernist sense of making—into “making-as- a-sense-of-being.” This expanded concept highlights art’s uniqueness and its potential for fostering ecological awareness. The find ings position art education as: (1) a process of practicing “material thinking,” (2) an engagement in “doing-in-undergoing” within relational situations, and (3) an activity of “imprinting” rather than “expressing.” These insights reimagine art education as a practice of opening ourselves to the Other, dissolving rigid boundaries of the self, and rehearsing relational modes of existence, thereby contributing to ecological transformation.
