Abstract

This study compares and analyzes the the elementary writing curricula of Korea and China, both simultaneously revised in 2022, focusing on content selection and organization. The findings revealed some fundamental differences in content selection: the Korean curriculum deepening the 'quality of cognitive competence' in learners, whereas China emphasizes securing the 'quantity of learning experience' reflecting the characteristics of its writing system. Regarding content organization, the two countries demonstrate complementary characteristics; Korean exhibits a systematic sequence but lacks conceptual continuity, while China maintains distinct conceptual continuity centered on 'observation' but presents logical gaps in its sequence. Accordingly, this study proposes the necessity of strengthening 'conceptual continuity' in the Korean curriculum and refining the 'sequence' in the Chinese curriculum, providing implications for enhancing writing education in both countries.
