본 연구는 2014년부터 2021년까지 개최되었던 코리아가든쇼 작가정원의 정원시설물을 대상으로 작가의 의도된 주제의 표현 특성, 사용된 재료, 정원시설물의 형태, 색상, 질감의 디자인 특성을 바탕으로 주제와 시간에 따른 재료의 변천과 의미를 해석하고자 한다. 정원시설물은 주어진 주제를 표현하기에 적합한 물성의 재료를 사용하였으며, 예산, 전시의 형태(철거형인지 존치형인지)가 재료 선택에 영향을 미쳤다. 외형적인 디자인 특성에서는 전체 정원에서 시설물이 차지하는 비중이 커지는 최근 작품일수록 채도가 낮은 어두운 색상을 사용하고 있으며, 형태에서는 ‘힐링’에 관련된 주제일 때 비선형적이고 비정형적인 형태의 작품이 많았다. 질감에서는 존치형의 정원일수록 내구성이 좋은 단단한 재료를 이용하여 거친 질감으로 자연의 주제를 표현하였다. 이 논문의 의의는 정원박람회에서의 정원시설물은 하나의 예술작품으로서 주제의 전달, 공간의 분위기 조성, 기능성을 갖춘 실용적인 구조물로써 사용한 재료의 특성과 의미의 변천을 해석하였다는 데 있다.
Abstract
The study targeted the garden installations of the Artist Garden section in The Korea Garden Show held from 2014 to 2021. It aimed to interpret the changes and significance of materials according to themes and time, based on the expressive characteristics of the artist’s intended subject, used materials, and the installations’ design characteristics in color, form, and texture. The garden installations used materials with properties suitable to express a given theme, and the budget and the exhibition type (whether it can be dismantled or be permanent) influenced the material selection. In terms of exterior design characteristics, newer works adapting recent trends of filling a garden with an increasing number of installations used darker colors with low saturation. When it comes to forms, works with the ‘healing’ theme had tendencies to use more non-linear and atypical forms. As for textures, the permanent installation-type gardens used durable materials to express the theme of nature through rough textures. The study has its meaning in regarding the garden installations at the garden exhibition as works of art consisting of functional structures complete with theme delivery, atmosphere creation in space, and functionality, as well as analyzing the changes in material characteristics and significance of the used materials.
