화이트헤드의 유기체적 시간론에 관한 연구

화이트헤드는 근대 철학의 시간론이 현대 자연과학의 입장에 부합하지 않다고 비판한다. 왜냐하면 그의 표현을 빌리면, 근대의 시공간론이 ‘잘못 놓인 구체성의 오류’를 범하기 때문이다. 또한 시간과 존재의 관계에 있어서도 존재가 있을 때 시간이 있을 수 있다는 새로운 관점을 제시한다. 그는 근대의 시공간론이 ‘단순정위의 오류’를 범하고 있다고 비판한다. 즉 근대의 시공간론은 뉴턴식의, 점적이면서도 정태적인 관점에서 전개되었다는 점을 지적하고 있다. 화이트헤드는 생성 과정 속에서 상호 관계를 맺고 있는 존재자들의 우주를 모델로 삼고 있다. 또한 점적인 시간을 직선적인 시간으로 전환하여 설명한다. 왜냐하면 화이트헤드에게 있어서 시간이란, 점과 점 사이의 관계로 이해되어야 하는 하나의 폭을 가진 지속이기 때문이다. 이와 같은 자연과학적 시간론은 그의 저서 『과정과 실재』를 중심으로, 인간의 시간 경험에까지 적용되는 광범한 형이상학적 시간론으로 전개된다. 왜냐하면 자연과학에서의 정합적 시간론은 인간 경험에도 적용가능한 것이어야 하기 때문이다. 그래서 그는 인간의 시간 경험을 연장적 연속체의 관점에서 연장적 유기체적 결합의 관계로 밝힌다. 결국 이러한 시간론을 통해 정리한 인간의 시간 경험은 제시적 직접성, 인과적 유효성, 예시적 지각이다. 결국 화이트헤드는 시간 역시 하나의 현실적 존재자로서 합생이라는 측면에서 현실화되는 실재인 것이다.
Abstract
This paper focuses on the 'Organismic Time-theory' of A. N. Whitehead. On his time-theory, a modern(Newtonic) time-theory is inconsistent with a natural science of the present age. That is why he criticised the modern(Newtonic) time-theory. In other words, the time-theory made a mistake, ‘the fallacy of misplaced concreteness’. and ‘the fallacy of simple location’ because this modern(Newtonic) time-theory was based in a punctual and static time-space. Cosmology of A. N. Whitehead is that actual entities enter into a corrrelation in its becoming process. And he replaced a concept of punctual time with a linear time because he understood that a time is relation with dot and dot, is a duration with width. Furthermore, in his work Process and Reality, the natural scientific time-theory developed extensive metaphysics which can be applied to human time-experience. And he, in this metaphysical time-theory, defined the time-experience as presentational immediacy, causal efficacy and anticipatory perception. In Whitehead, time is a actual entity just like other things actualizing through concrescence.
