Abstract
Since its inception, manifesto in Korea has been understood only as a tool for political reforms to consolidate the representative democracy. However, manifestos proposed by political parties in elections could be much more than this: they are important political texts which contain invaluable informations on diverse aspects of Korean politics. Nonetheless, this kind of trait of manifestos has received much less scholarly attention in the field of political science than it deserves. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to delve into the ways of using manifestos academically. Be more specific, this study introduces how the learned circles of western political scientists measure manifestos and where they apply the measured data. In addition, it suggests the possible direction of future research on manifestos in Korea.
