Abstract

This study examined the perception and evaluation of primary school teachers on the development and application of a flexible non-face-to-face curriculum for the master’s course in primary English education in the first semester of 2020. The research data were collected through online surveys of five primary school teachers, written interview responses, and assignments submitted by them. The research questions consist of how the contents and forms of the flexible non-face-to-face curriculum are organized to cope with COVID-19, what teachers' perceptions and evaluations of this curriculum are, and what experience teachers have as self-directed learners and graduate students who conduct research. According to the data analysis, the teachers responded positively to the flexible non-face-to-face curriculum, and they were able to perform their studies satisfactorily with the five-step curriculum. Through video lectures by the professor, assignments imposed, and feedback from colleagues and the professor, the contents and implications were well understood, and the motivation to apply them to primary school education was strengthened. It was also confirmed that teachers were able to identify themselves as researchers by faithfully carrying out the task of writing a small paper. Based on these findings, several suggestions were made on the feasibility of synchronic video lectures, methods of communication between professors and students, and the direction of practical and affective areas for supporting non-face-to-face classes for elementary school teachers for further research.
