Abstract

Lee, J.K., Kim, J.H. The Effects of Altitude Training on VO2max, Anaerobic Threshold, Blood Components and Immune Substrates in Elite Alpine Skiers. Exercise Science, 12(3): 357-366, 2003. The purpose of this study was to determine effect of altitude training on O2max, anaerobic threshold(AT), blood components, immune substrates. 7 male subject classified as the altitude training (Al-T) group trained at the altitude of 2,700-3,500m in Tignes, France for 6weeks. 7 male subjects classified as the sea level training(Sl-T) group trained in domestic. They were top level college alpine skiers. The results of this study were as following: First, O2max and AT significantly increased after training in both group(p<.01), whereas blood lactate level significantly decreased in Al-T after training(p<.01). Second, RBC and Hb were slightly increase in both group(12.1%, 12%, respectively), but no significant. Third, T-cell significantly decreased in Al-T(p<.01), whereas NK cell significantly increased in both group(p<.05) after training. In conclusion, altitude and sea level training elevates competitive ability in alpine skiers, such as O2max, AT, blood components and immune substrates, but altitude training significant effect better than sea level training.
