Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a reliable instrument to measure college students’ satisfaction with their majors in response to the evolving landscape of higher education. To establish a theoretical foundation, this study integrated the CIPP model for program evaluation with the ADDIE model for instructional design. Based on this integrated framework, four core domains of major education were identified: “Curriculum Organization and Operation, Instructional Activities, Assessment and Feedback, Educational Outcomes and Satisfaction.” Fifteen items were developed to measure these domains. The instrument was empirically tested through an online survey conducted with 339 undergraduate students enrolled at University A. , along with analyses of convergent and discriminant validity and internal consistency, were performed to examine the psychometric properties of the instrument. Based on the analysis, 6 items (Q5, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q11, and Q13) were removedand a refined 9-item model was finalized. The revised model demonstrated an acceptable model fit (CFI = .98, TLI = .97, RMSEA = .067, SRMR = .031), satisfactory convergent validity (AVE ≥ .50), discriminant validity, and high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .91). This study is significant because it develops a theoretically grounded and empirically validated instrument capable of comprehensively measuring the quality of education. The proposed instrument is expected to serve as a foundational tool in various higher education contexts, including program evaluation, curriculum improvement, faculty development, and academic advice.
