2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 사회과 교과서의 인공지능(AI) 관련 내용 분석

인공지능(AI) 사회로의 변화가 큰 관심을 끌고 있는 상황에서 사회과에서도 관심을 갖고 적극적으로 대응해야할 시점이다. 특히 인공지능과 관련된 사회적 쟁점, 변화 양상, 시민적 실천 등에 대해 학생들이 탐구할 수 있는기회를 제공하는 것이 중요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사회과 교과서에서 인공지능 관련 내용이 어떻게 제시되고있는지를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 중학교 『사회1』, 『사회2』 교과서, 고등학교 『통합사회1』, 『통합사회2』 교과서각 5종씩 총 20종의 교과서를 대상으로 인공지능 관련 내용을 추출하였고, 추출한 내용을 AI 사회의 기반 윤리 확립, AI 관련 기술 발전의 이해, AI의 사회적 영향 인식, AI 도구 및 서비스의 올바른 활용, AI 개발 및 창조를 위한노력의 5개 영역으로 분류하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 중등 사회과 교과서에서는 총 132회의인공지능 관련 내용이 등장하였으며, 둘째, AI 관련 기술 발전의 이해 영역과 AI의 사회적 영향 인식 영역의 내용비중이 높았고, 셋째, 사회과 교과서의 인공지능 관련 내용은 본문, 도움 자료, 탐구 활동 등 다양한 제시 형태로구성되어 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 사회과 교과서가 인공지능 시대에 요구되는 시민성 함양에 일정 부분기여하고 있음을 확인하였다는 의의를 갖는다. 인공지능 시민성 함양에 핵심적 역할을 하는 사회과 교과서의 중요성을다시 인식하고, 사회과 교과서 및 교과서 활용 환경 개선을 위한 노력이 계속될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
As the transition to an AI-driven society garners significant attention, it's a critical moment for social studies education to engage with and actively respond to this shift. Specifically, it's essential to provide students with opportunities to explore social issues, patterns of change, and civic practices related to artificial intelligence(AI). This study analyzes how AI content is presented in social studies textbooks. For this purpose, AI content was extracted from a total of 20 textbooks developed under the 2022 revised national curriculum. The extracted content was categorized into five domains: establishing foundational ethics in an AI society, understanding technological advancements related to AI, recognizing the social impacts of AI, appropriately utilizing AI tools and services, and efforts toward AI development and creativity. The analysis revealed three key findings: (1) there were 132 instances of AI content in the secondary social studies textbooks; (2) content related to understanding technological advancements and recognizing the social impacts of AI accounted for the largest proportions; and (3) AI content was presented in various formats, including main text, supplementary materials, and inquiry activities. This study confirms that social studies textbooks contribute to fostering the kind of citizenship required in the AI era. It underscores the need to re-emphasize the importance of social studies textbooks in cultivating AI citizenship and to continue efforts to improve both textbook content and instructional environments.
