Abstract

This paper argues that coming international order will be of a liberal entity embedded with some Chinese characteristics and that hegemonic war is not likely to occur although the transition era may experience periodic turbulences. It, however, stresses the danger of the working of the self-fulfilling prophecy and the possible clash between American and Chinese exceptionalisms as they may lead to an unintended catastrophe.
