Abstract
In the early 21st century, China became the world's largest recipient of foreign direct investment of $65 billion dollars in 2003. In terms of economy size, China is expected to be the world's 3rd largest economy after the U.S. and Japan by 2008, becoming bigger than the German economy. China's capitalism is described as a, ‘social market economy.” The purpose of this paper is to analyse the similarities between China's social market economy and Continental Europe's ‘stakeholder” capitalism. We believe that these similarities have the potential for close collaboration between the societies in Europe and China.
