Abstract
This study examined the effect of professor feedback on reflective journals written after physical education classes for students with disabilities on the reflective thinking levels of pre-service special physical education teachers. To achieve this goal, a purposive sample of 39 pre-service special physical education teachers was recruited. These teachers conducted physical education classes (4-5 students, 20 minutes each) with students with disabilities and wrote reflective journals about their own and their peers' physical education classes. The experimental group received both group and individual feedback on their reflective journals. Data analysis included the reflective journals written at the beginning of the physical education class (pre-test, 146 journals) and the end of the last physical education class (post-test, 148 journals). Differences in reflective journals between the experimental and control groups were analyzed using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) (α=.05). The research results showed that the level of reflective thinking in the group that received feedback on the reflective journal in physical education class was significantly higher than that in the group that did not receive feedback, confirming that reflective journal writing and professor feedback on reflective journals are essential to improve the level of reflective thinking in pre-service special physical education teachers at university teacher training institutions.
