Abstract
This paper aims to comparative analysis of the evidentiality and person restriction of the Korean ‘-deo-(-더-)’ and the Chinese ‘来着(lái zhe)’. It’s confirmed that both ‘-deo-(-더-)’ in Korean and ‘来着(lái zhe)’ in Chinese function as evidential markers. The Korean ‘-deo-(-더-)’ serves as a marker of direct evidentiality and is used when the speaker has observed an action directly. As a result, a first-person subject restrict occurs in declarative sentences when ‘-deo-(-더-)’ is combined with verbs, as speakers cannot observe their own actions directly. In contrast, the Chinese ‘来着(lái zhe)’ indicates that the speaker possesses definite evidence of an action they have personally experienced and expresses confidence in what they have observed directly. Due to these complex differences in person restriction, this paper examined the similarities and differences between the Korean ‘-deo-(-더-)’ and the Chinese ‘来着(lái zhe)’ through a comparative analysis.
