Abstract

The thesis clarifies the commonality and the difference between「Onomatopoeia+hada」 and 「Onomatopoeia+suru」by conducting a comparative analysis of the two in Korean and Japanese TV drama series furthermore analyzing the cause of the difference. The following is the abstract of the conclusion. ① 「Onomatopoeia+hada」 and 「Onomatopoeia+suru」 both convey various meanings including "motion", "state", "emotion", and "sensation". However, 「Onomatopoeia+hada」 is more often used in the meaning of "state" instead of "motion" or "emotion". Whereas 「Onomatopoeia+suru」is more often used in the meanings of "motion" and "emotion" instead of "state". ② The reason 「Onomatopoeia+ha-da」 having fewer "emotion" meaning function can be attributed to the diversity and magnitude of adjectives with emotional function in Korean language. The reason for fewer "motion" meaning function of 「Onomatopoeia+hada」 can be ascribed to the frequent use of 「Onomatopoeia+georida」, 「Onomatopoeia+daeda」, and 「Onomatopoeia+ida」 in regards to repetitive or continuative meaning which can replace 「Onomatopoeia+hada」. In contrast, 「Onomatopoeia+suru」 functions only as verb therefore, it has more usage in meaning "motion" than "state". Furthermore, other predicates of onomatopoeia in Japanese language such as 「Onomatopoeia+tsuku」, 「Onomatopoeia +maeku」 and 「Onomatopoeia +kiru」 do not convey "motion" and the usage is limited in comparison to the Korean counterparts 「Onomatopoeia+georida」, 「Onomatopoeia+daeda」,and「Onomatopoeia+ida」 thus「Onomatopoeia+suru」is widely used instead of their different meaning functions.
