본고는 AI 시대에 나타날 예술 작품의 의미 변화를 바탕으로 ‘시’가 갖는 고유한 의미를 예비적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 AI 시대의 본질적인 의미를 분석하고, 차후 ‘시’가 갖는 역할에 대해 논증하였다. 표면적으로 AI 시대는 기술 환경의 변화를 통해 근본적 의미에서의 단절을 수반하는 사건적 계기처럼 보이지만, 실제로는 합리적 경제 행위를 원천 으로 하는 도구적 이성이 기술적 계기를 통해 완성되는 시점이다. 현대 사회 에서 촉발된 예술의 위기는 기술 환경의 변화에 따른 갑작스러운 사태가 아니라 사회적 합리성이 도구적 이성에 귀속된 사태로부터 이어진 항구적인 것이라 할 수 있다. 그 가운데 ‘시’라는 예술 형식과 시적 언어의 위기는 프롬프트 언어가 사회의 지배적 언어로 자리함에 따라 발생한 존재론적 위기 처럼 보이지만, 실질적으로는 그와 같은 위기 또한 갑작스러운 사태가 아니라 기존 사회로부터 상시적으로 발생해온 사태의 연장선상에서 파악될 필요가 있다. 현대 예술과 ‘시’를 둘러싼 문제의 핵심은 단지 기술 환경의 변화에 있지 않다. 아도르노적 의미에서 ‘예술’과 ‘시’는 본래부터 그 특성으로 인해 항상 사멸에 가까운 위기 상황에 놓여 있으며, 반대로 말해 그러한 사멸 위기야말로 도구적 이성의 사회에서 예술의 존재 양상으로 사유를 전환해야 한다. 예술의 존재 의미는 다시금 비판적 이성의 영역으로 귀결되는바, 여기에서 중점은 직접적인 체제 비판의 메시지가 아닌 자체 형식에 존재한다. ‘시’의 가치는 직접적인 체제 비판의 메시지나 감성적 촉발의 영역이 아닌, 직관적이지 않으며 효율성으로 매개될 수 없다는 시적 언어의 특성, 수치로 환원될수 없기에 지배적 언어의 영역으로부터 배제될 수밖에 없는 요소들을 보존 하는 장소라는 형식적 특성이다. ‘시’의 위기는 동시에 ‘시’란 무엇인가에 대한 본원적인 해답을 제공한다는 점에서 역설적인 가치를 갖는다. 창작 주체가 인간이 아닌 시스템으로 대체되고, 창작된 작품의 가치가 다른 종류의 감각적 상품과 등가로 치부되는 상황은 ‘시’의 본래적 가치를 퇴색하게 만들며 낮은 상품성으로 인해 자본주의 체제 내에서 존재 자체의 위기를 초래하고 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 위기는 동시에 사회적 합리성이 도구적 이성에 귀속된 상황에서 환원 불가능한 인간됨(Being－Human)의 요소를 증언하는 존재론적 장소라는 ‘시’의 특징을 그 어느 때보다 선명하게 드러낸다.
Abstract
This study conducts a preliminary Research into the transformation of artistic meaning in the age of AI, focusing in particular on the changing status of poetry. While the AI era appears to mark a fundamental rupture brought about by technological shifts, it is in fact the culmination of instrumental reason ― rooted in rational economic activity ― being completed and reified through a technological threshold. Thus, the crisis of art observed in contemporary society is not an abrupt consequence of technological change but a continuation of a long－standing condition in which social rationality has become subordinated to instrumental reason. The existential crisis confronting poetry and poetic language, seemingly triggered by the rise of prompt-based linguistic regimes, is likewise not a sudden event but an intensified manifestation of tendencies that have been persistently present within modern society. The core issue surrounding contemporary art and poetry does not lie merely in technological transformation. In the Adornian sense, art and poetry have always existed in a state close to extinction; indeed, such proximity to disappearance constitutes the very mode of existence of Adornian art within a society governed by instrumental reason. Accordingly, the significance of art returns to the domain of critical reason, not through direct ideological critique but through its formal properties. The value of poetry does not reside in explicit political messages or affective stimulation, but in its formal capacity to preserve elements of language that are non-intuitive, resistant to efficiency, and irreducible to numerical or prompt-based systems. The crisis faced by poetry thus paradoxically reveals a fundamental answer to the question of what poetry is. As creative agency is displaced by technological systems and poetic works are equated with other sensory commodities, poetry’s intrinsic value appears increasingly diminished, and its low marketability seems to place it in existential jeopardy within capitalist society. Yet these very characteristics illuminate poetry as an ontological site that bears witness to the irreducible dimensions of Being-Human ― dimensions that cannot be subsumed under the logic of instrumental reason.
