In order to grasp the status of grammar in Korean proficiency test, this paper attempted to examine the status of grammar as a construct through the concept of language ability covered in language assessment. To this end, the role of grammar was examined through the evaluation elements of language assessment and the description of grammar shown in the evaluation goal. Through this analysis, it was confirmed that the proportion of language knowledge among the constructs of communication competence was a high proportion as assessment factors. Language assessment has been generally based on grammar competence, and the current proficiency test conducted under the concept of communication competence is also measured language knowledge as an important role. Even if we look at the grammar in a narrow sense within language knowledge, it can be seen that it is one of the important measurement factors especially in the newly developed Korean proficiency test. The role of grammar in measuring the accuracy of language use has not decreased.
