Abstract
This study analyzes Korean academic papers included in the Database of Japanese Language Research and Japanese Language Education operated by the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL) in Japan. A total of 5,980 papers from thirty nine Korean academic journals were analyzed to clarify trends in journal inclusion, patterns of full-text accessibility, and language distribution. The results indicate that the database encompasses a broad range of journals primarily related to Japanese linguistics and language education, suggesting that NINJAL has systematically compiled research on Japan and the Japanese language produced in Korea. Approximately 44 percent of the papers offer full-text access, although levels of openness differ across journals, likely reflecting variations in Korea Citation Index linkage and open access policies. With respect to language, 56.84 percent of the papers were written in Korean, 41.97 percent in Japanese, and 1.19 percent in English. Among papers available in full text, however, Korean and Japanese are nearly equivalent in number. While Korean-language papers dominated in the 1990s, the proportion of Japanese-language papers increased after the 2000s, resulting in a near balance between the two languages in recent years. Overall, the findings show that research produced in Korea on Japanese language and education can be partially traced through the database, although further improvements in accessibility and visibility are still needed.
