This study explores the morphological characteristics, semantic and syntactic features of three Korean causal constructions: "-neun barame(-는 바람에)," "-neun tonge(-는 통에)," and "-neun tase(-는 탓에)," focusing on their differences in usage patterns. To enhance previous studies that largely relied on intuition and case analysis, this research utilizes data from the Sejong Written Corpus and identified the morphological characteristics of each construction. By employing Collexeme Analysis within the R environment, the research presents the top 30 collexemes that frequently co-occur with each construction and statistically investigated not only the semantic preference patterns, but also the syntactic constraints, such as part-of-speech restrictions on preceding elements and limitations on negative elements.
Abstract
