The conjunctive ending ‘-neurago’ and idiomatic phrase ‘-neun barame’ which show cause and reason have different grammatical function but in meaning they have similarities. They are common grammaratical items which are presented and taught in most of Korean textbooks for intermediate learner. As Korean conjunctive endings which have the meaning of cause or reason are subject to have many syntax constraints, many researches are focused on them. But ‘-neurago’ and ‘-neun barame’ have been less concerned compared with the other cause or reason expressing endings of basic levels,‘-a/eoseo', ‘-nigga’, and ‘-gi ddaemune’. Therefore, this study aims to look into the background of ‘-neun barame' and ‘-neurago’ appearance and their grammaticalization processes. And it is also intended to examine the differences between them based on meanings and discourse functions which are used in modern Korean language.
