A Comparative Analysis between Korean Language and Chinese Language Nonce-Words: Focusing on the derivatives.

Aiming at comparing Korean language with Chinese language, this paper focuses on the derivative types among the types that form the nonce-words. Nonce-words are words that have not yet been socially recognized and are improvised by the speaker’s language skills in conversation or context. Created and used temporarily by individual members of a language community, these words may be discarded as soon as they are used. It may also be listed in advance and used as a fixed word, which is depended on the number of people used and the frequency of use. The study of nonce-words is actively conducted in Korean language, but in comparison, the number of studies in Chinese language is small and the comparative studies with Korean are rare. It is hoped to help Chinese language learners or Korean language learners to learn vocabulary while understanding the derivative-oriented nonce-words vocabulary phenomenon of Korean language and Chinese language as well as its commonalities and differences.
