초록
This study analyzes the face-threatening of Korean metaphors from semi-corpus of domestic dramas such as “Misaeng”, “Faithfulness”, and “Queen of Housewives”. This study analyzes whether the metaphor of human beings as objects, animals, and other humans could be a face threatening. The analysis shows that metaphors were used more frequently, not only in the workplace and in family, but also by men than women. This means that negative metaphors or metaphorsing human as animal or object is used more frequently in hierarchical relationship. In addition, among 65 metaphor expressions, there are only two metaphor expressions that lower level people use to upper level people. Considering this result, it can be inferred that the lower person feels a burden to speak metaphorical expressions to the upper person. Until now, only few Korean learners are aware of the fact that metaphorical expressions can threaten the other person's face. Therefore, based on the results of this study, if continuous research is continued in the future, not only will it teach Korean learners that metaphorical utterances can be consider as disrespectful speech act, but also help them to use metaphors appropriately depending on the situation.
