본 연구는 신설된 매체 영역의 타당한 교수⋅학습을 위해서 초등학생의 ‘국어과 매체 능력’ 수준을 실증적 자료를 통해 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 매체 영역의 정체성, ‘국어 능력’의 개념, 매체 영역과 타 영역과의 차별점 등을 논의하여 ‘국어과 매체 능력’의 개념을 정리하고, 이에 부합하는 매체 영역의 교수·학습 활동을 계획하여 실행한 후 그 결과를 분석하였다. 투입한 교수·학습 활동에는 디지털 매체 통합 교수 절차를 준용한 디지털 격차의 진단, 진단 결과를 반영한 사전 수업, 그리고 디지털 매체 자료를 탐색, 선택, 활용하여 매체 자료를 생산하는 과제가 포함되었다. ‘국어과 매체 능력’의 수준별 양상은 크게 ‘소통 맥락과 윤리를 고려한 자료 선택 능력’, ‘정보성을 강화하는 의미 구성 능력’, ‘소통의 효과성을 높이는 정보 선택과 제시 능력’ 측면에서 변별되었다. 각 측면의 하위 항목별로 보다 세부적인 능력의 수준 변별 지점들을 파악하고 이를 종합하여 상위 항목별로 ‘국어과 매체 능력’의 수준별 양상을 제시하였다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 디지털 매체 통합 교수 계획에서 디지털 기능 및 격차 진단의 필요성, 복합양식성을 가진 매체 자료에서 정보를 선택하고 통합하는 과정에 대한 보다 정교한 후속 연구의 필요성 등을 제언하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to empirically investigate elementary school students’ levels of ‘Media Literacy in Korean Language Arts’ to support effective teaching and learning in the newly established media area. To this end, the concept of Media Literacy in Korean Language Arts was discussed. And students were assigned tasks that required them to search for, select, and utilize digital-based media materials to produce their own media content, and their levels of Media Literacy in Korean Language Arts were examined. The results revealed that students’ media literacy in Korean Language Arts varied significantly in three main areas: the ability to select materials considering communication context and ethics, the ability to construct meaning to enhance informativeness, and the ability to select and present information to improve communication effectiveness. Based on these findings, the study suggests the need for diagnosing digital skills and digital divide as well as the necessity for more detailed research and educational approaches regarding the processes of selecting and integrating information from multimodal media materials.
