아동⋅청소년이 쓴 소설의 출간 동향과 특징- 2015년 이후 간행된 장편 소설을 중심으로 -

2015년 이후 장편 소설을 출간하는 아동⋅청소년이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 이는 일차적으로 POD 플랫폼 출판의 활성화로 인해 출간 비용이 크게 감소한 것이 중요한 변곡점으로 작용했기 때문이다. 또한 근본적으로는 출간 활동이 아동⋅청소년에게 작가로서의 효능감과 만족감을 주기 때문으로 나타났다. 아동⋅청소년이 쓴 소설에는 크게 세 가지 정도의 서사적 특성이 있었다. 첫째, 소통과 단절을 형상화하는 데 주력하고 있다는 점이다. 이때 소통은 친구 또는 동료 사이에서, 단절은 교사나 보호자와의 관계 사이에서 발생한다. 둘째, 극적 사건을 다루지만 세부 설정에는 미흡한 면이 있다. 사건의 심각성에 비해 세부 사항은 빈틈이 많아 실감을 떨어뜨리는 경향이 있었다. 셋째, 주제 ‘말해주기’와 해설로써의 작가의 말이 있다는 점이다. 주제는 대화나 내레이션으로 자주 ‘말해’지고, 거의 모든 작품에 작품 해설의 성격을 가지는 작가의 말이 첨부되어 있었다. 이같은 서사적 특성에 대해 ‘교정’보다는 ‘이해’의 관점으로 접근할 필요가 있다. 아동⋅청소년의 창작물 역시 ‘작품으로 가는 도상에 있는 습작’으로 치부하기보다는 그 자체로 완성된 것으로 받아들이고, 교육적 차원에서 나름대로 의미 있는 지점들을 규명해 줄 필요가 있다고 본다. 서사 창작과 출간 활동이 학생이 풍요로운 삶에 기여하고 있다면, 그 자체로도 충분히 가치 있는 일이라는 열린 접근 방식이 요구된다.
Abstract
Since 2015, the number of children and adolescents publishing novels has steadily increased. This is primarily because the activation of POD platform publishing has significantly reduced publishing costs, which has acted as an important turning point. Novels written by children and adolescents have three major narrative characteristics. First, they focus on visualizing communication and disconnection. In this case, communication occurs between friends or colleagues, and disconnection occurs between relationships with teachers or guardians. Second, they deal with dramatic events, but the detailed settings are lacking. Compared to the severity of the events, the details tend to be too loose, reducing the sense of realism. Third, they have the author’s words as a “telling” of the theme and explanation. The theme is often “spoken” through dialogue or narration, and almost all works have the author's words as an explanation of the work. It is necessary to approach these narrative characteristics from the perspective of “understanding” rather than “correction.” I believe that we need to accept them as complete works in themselves and identify points of significance in terms of education. If narrative creation and publishing activities contribute to a student's enriched life, then an open approach is required that is valuable in itself.
