이 글은 고대 그리스 B.C. 5-4세기 전후 아테네에서 남성(동성애)적 섹슈얼리티와 남성 몸의 아름다움에 대한 남성적 지식(플라톤의 『향연』)과 함께, 남성중심적 여성 섹슈얼리티 지배와 그 지배에 대한 여성들의 대응으로서 여성 자신의 섹슈얼리티와 여성적 지식(화장)의 구성을 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 남성중심적 여성 섹슈얼리티와 여성 외모(몸)의 이분화된 분배, 즉 쾌락녀(매춘부)/재생산녀(정숙녀), 짙은 화장과 몸치장/화장금기(정숙외모) 라는 분할 하에 이를 위반했던 여성들(후자)의 화장을 고찰하고, 둘째, 남성적 (동성애)섹슈얼리티와 남성 몸의 아름다움을 추구하는 목욕문화와 미용문화 등의 현실과 남성 몸의 아름다움에 대한 이론적 정당화로서 지식(『향연』)을 고찰한다. 이를 통해 서구철학이 정신과 몸을 대비시킬 때는 남성을 정신, 여성을 몸으로 설정하면서도, 정작 몸을 기반으로 진리와 아름다움을 유추하는 경우, 이 몸의 대표성은 남성의 몸으로서, 남성몸만이 인간일반의 몸 혹은 가장 우월한 몸으로 대표하고 있음을 폭로한다. 마지막으로, 이러한 남성 중심의 섹슈얼리티, 아름다움의 권력 하에서 여성의 화장은 남성중심적 섹슈얼리티, 아름다움, 지식, 권력에 대한 위반으로서 여성 자신의 섹슈얼리티, 아름다움에 관한 여성적 지식의 재구성이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
In this essay I’m trying to re-conceptualize the make-up of ancient greek women(wives of men) which was the resistance against the dominant dichotomy, the fallen women/ the virtuous women. Secondly, this essay focused on the homosexuality and beauty of male body and men's knowledge about it, The male-centered homosexuality bred the bath and beauty salon culture of men in classical Athens where it wasn't just women who were dying to be beautiful, a culture that venerated the male body. And the philosophy(knowledge : ex) Plato’s Symposium) was justification of the Beauty and Sexuality of male body. In this male-centered culture of beauty, women’s make-up, taboo or severely criticized by greek intellectuals, could be the women’s knowledge of beauty constructed by women’s own desire and sexuality as the unconscious resistance against the power of male-centered sexuality and beauty.
