본 논문의 목적은 역사적으로 여성적 아름다움의 이미지가 어떻게 변화되었는지살펴보고 문화나 이데올로기에 따라 위대한 어머니 여신의 원형적 이미지로, 비너스 여신으로 묘사되고 구현된 철학적, 신화적, 예술적 실천으로서의 여신상을분석하는 것이다. 구석기 시대에 위대한 어머니 여신은 생명의 탄생과 죽음, 다산과 풍요의 상징으로써 초월적 아름다움을 가진 조각상으로 제작되고 숭배되었다. 이들의 초월적 아름다움은 가슴, 엉덩이, 성기 등 여성의 생식과 임신과 출산과관련된 신체 부위들을 풍만하고 과장된 몸으로 형상화되었다. 고대 그리스에서는 비너스 여신으로 그 우주적인 힘과 근원적 에너지와 초월적 아름다움은 축소되면서, 수학적 원리와 질서에 의해 이상적인 아름다움이 극대화되는 심미적 대상으로 점차 그 육체의 관능미가 강조되었다. 고대 그리스 조각상에서 이상적인 아름다움을 더욱 구체화하는 것은 가장 아름다운 육체를 선택하여 이상적인 아름다움과 결합시키고 있다는 것이다. 르네상스 시대에는 바로 고대 그리스인들의 육체를 모든 시대 인간들의 육체의 정점이자 규범으로 간주하고, 그 최고의 인간 정신이 구현된 그리스 조각을 최고의 이상적인 아름다움으로 제시하고 모방하였다. 한편 여성적 아름다움에 대한 욕망과 관련하여 근대 미학에서 여성 몸에 대한 담론이 어떻게 시작될 수 있었는지 살펴보는 것은 의미가 있었다. 마지막으로 1960 년대 이후 여성 신체미술에 나타난 나르시시즘, 미적 금욕주의, 그로테스크 신체미학이 결국 여성적 아름다움을 규정지어 왔던 남성의 시선과 응시에 대한 거부이고 저항임을 확인했다.
Abstract
This paper offers a theoretical investigation into the image of ideal feminine beauty, primarily through different representation of Venus from the Paleolithic Great Mother Goddess to the naked female body in the feminist artistic practices. The feminine images from the Paleolithic and Neolithic Great Mother Goddess had been created and worshipped as the transcendent beauty, but she was showed as Venus and eroticized through the pictorial gaze for sexuality and feminine beauty in the western art. This paper is also aimed to revisit the term, the history and the iconography of nude, which is an art form invented to depict the naked human body as the ideal human body and beauty. To this end, this paper approaches the recent feminist artistic practices like the aesthetic asceticism, narcissism and grotesque and contemplates the new concept of beauty and new female body.
