Abstract

This study criticized the view of <Seogyeongbyeolgok> as a combined poem and analyzed it as a complete work with a semantic structure. It revealed the coherence and consistency of meaning in the composition and examined the emotions and atmosphere related to the place. First, I reinterpreted ‘쇼셩경’ in the first stanza and ‘네가시’ in the third stanza. Pointed out the problem of interpreting it as ‘小城京’ and based on the phrase in <Cheoyongga> and ‘鎬京’, the alias of Seogyeong, ‘쇼셩경’ is interpreted as ‘昭盛京, a shining and prosperous Seoul’. In the 3rd stanza, lines 3 and 4, ‘럼난디(presumptuous)’ presupposes an object of comparison, like ‘wide’ in lines 1 and 2, so it is ‘over the top’ compared to an ordinary boatman, so ‘네가시’ is interpreted as ‘like you’ is more appropriate than ‘your wife’. The third stanza, which depicts the current situation of separation, is the center of this poem. The first stanza depicts the conflict between two lovers as they parted, the second stanza quotes the lyrics of <Jeongseokga> to accept and resolve the breakup, and the third stanza depicts a scene of blaming the boatman while looking at the departing lover on the riverside of the Daedonggang. the fourth stanza expresses the worry that the lover would take another woman. It has a multi-layered time structure with the past, present, and future. There is a discrepancy between the faith and commitment of the second stanza, and the doubt and jealousy of the fourth stanza, deepening the theme along with poetic tension. The main emotions of the poem are love, resentment, anxiety, and worry. After accepting the breakup, she pledged to be faithful, and her emotions rose at the scene of the breakup, but in the end, she expressed resentment at not being able to accept the breakup, and even revealed fears and jealous concerns about the days spending alone. The atmosphere of the poem was mainly formed by the sense of place. The Daedonggang, the entrance to Seogyeong during its prosperous era, is crowded with people and busy with departures and returns to there, and there the speaker is saying goodbye to her lover. Contrasting with the atmosphere of the ferry’s prosperity, her sorrowful and anxious feelings became the focus. The progression of this separation and the development of the story according to the structure of the road are focused on the scene at the ferry along the Daedonggang. While the process of parting is shown according to the narrative development, the scene of the parting is depicted to enhance the dramatic effect. Paid attention to the text’s ‘닷곤 ᄃᆡ 쇼셩경’ and used terms such as ‘repair’ that appear in 『Goryeosa』, I assumed that this work was created in the early Injong Dynasty, in the 1120s. <Seogyeongbyeolgok> is a work that represents the prosperity of Seogyeong and remembers and commemorates that era after Seogyeong’s decline. It can be said to be a monumental work handed down in Seogyeong’s rise and fall history.
