Abstract
Purpose This study examines Taekwondo dojangs from the perspective of family business succession, aiming to identify the key factors required in the generational transition process and to establish a strategic framework that enhances sustainable managerial competitiveness. Method A three-round Delphi survey was conducted with ten expert panelists who possessed over 15 years of academic or field experience related to Taekwondo dojang operations. This was followed by an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis involving forty field experts. Using Expert Choice 11.5 software, weight values were calculated and the consistency ratio (CR < 0.1) was verified to ensure reliability. Results Four main factor categories emerged—financial and managerial stability, relational and social trust, successor competency, and organizational and brand continuity—comprising a total of sixteen subfactors. Among these, financial and managerial stability demonstrated the highest priority (0.137), highlighting the importance of stable revenue structures, diversified business operations, and long-term investment planning as foundational conditions for successful succession. Furthermore, analysis confirmed a sequential mechanism in which financial stability functions as a precondition, trust as a mediating mechanism, successor competency as a driving force, and brand continuity as an outcome. Conclusion The generational transition of Taekwondo dojangs is not a simple transfer of ownership but a strategic process for sustaining organizational identity. This study extends family business succession theory into the sports management domain and provides practical implications, including the development of a successor certification system, consulting support, and succession-focused training programs.
