Abstract
This study phenomenologically explored the impact of the proliferation of professional qualification holders in the social welfare service sector on those involved. Seven participants described the time, effort, and financial investment required to obtain qualifications; motivations for entry and transition; the gap between ideals and reality; experiences with volunteering and internships; absurdities and employment discrimination; and precarious employment and burnout. The analysis revealed that overqualification led to identity confusion and ontological alienation in a context where expertise was not recognized as symbolic capital. This demonstrates that overqualification is a structural, not an individual, problem. Therefore, I emphasize the need for a fundamental restructuring of qualification systems, employment policies, and the education system to prevent wasteful human resources and ensure the sufficiency of social welfare services.
