우크라이나 전쟁과 동유럽, ‘신냉전 무대’ 부상과 대응 현황

Abstract

The Eastern Europe has long been serving as a ‘Border Region’ between the Western Europe and Russia, and as a ‘Buffer Zone’ that prevents direct conflict each other. Therefore, before the end of World War I, Eastern European countries had to be subjected to frequent territorial divisions by the Great Powers in accordance with the ups and downs of the Western European Powers and the Russian Empire. In the bilateral battle for supremacy, securing territories in Eastern Europe became an important criterion for the Great Powers at the time. Russia, which was treated as a European border for a while, was recognized as one of Europe’s Great Powers. Also, there was a territorial expansion in Eastern Europe after the 18th century. In the 21st century, Eastern Europe is emerging as a major stage for the ‘New Cold War’ between NATO and Russia, and the Ukraine war is also interpreted as such a ‘Geopolitical Conflict of Interest’. First of all, this study analyzes the background of the rapid rise of Eastern Europe as the ‘New Cold War Stage’ in the 21st century from the perspective of ‘Border Region’, and attempts to compare the NATO’s and Russia’s perspectives on Eastern Europe. Chapter 2 analyzes Eastern Europe’s views and strategies on the premise that the Ukraine War originated from a ‘Geopolitical Conflict of Interest’ between the United States and Russia for preemption in Eastern Europe. In Chapter 3, Eastern Europe is largely divided into Central Europe and Balkan Europe from the perspective of Russia’s ‘Interest Sphere’, and various perspectives on this war and their survival strategies are compared and explained. Lastly, in the conclusion, I will present the a priory experience of this war and the meaning of establishing a response strategy by citing the geopolitical and geostrategic similarities between the Eastern Europe and the Korean Peninsula.
