초록
This thesis is a study of the interpretation in the sphere of politics and diplomacy. Interpretation in this sphere mainly covers various speeches made diplomatically in summit meetings, working-level talks and international conferences. By studying the sentences broadly used in this sphere, I covered the appropriate method of the interpretation in the sphere of politics and diplomacy. Generally political diplomacy deals with the position of the political issues and delicate matters of the government policy, so an interpreter must understand the content and purpose of the speech both broadly and profoundly and on the basis of the exact understanding of the policy she should be very careful about the choice of the words. Because one little mistake can have a negative impact on the political and economic images of the nation and on the international relations. Therefore, in order to deliver the correct meaning about the political diplomacy, an interpreter should have an ability to feel the subtle differences of the meaning and notice the real purpose of the language spoken in a implicit and roundabout way as well as have an excellent language proficiency and quick responsiveness. Therefore, what is needed in the interpretation of the political diplomacy is to find a target language which sets up the meaning of source language and equivalent relationship and to interpret by equivalence. Here the equivalence between source and target language should be a meaning equivalence rather than language equivalence. To find out the most appropriate equivalents, an interpreter should make an unceasing effort. From this point of view, I focused on the interpretation theory which pursues the equivalent relationship of meaning, not the syntactic analysis.
