이 글은 현대 민주주의의 핵심이 되어버린 선거민주주의와 관련해, 선거가 갖는의미와 한계를 마르크스주의의 관점에서 분석했다. 이 글은 계급사회인 자본주의사회가 왜 전자본주의사회와 달리 보통선거권과 같은 법적·정치적 평등을 보장하고정치적 민주주의, 선거민주주의를 보장하는가 하는 것을 하나의 생산양식으로서의자본주의의의 특징(점유권과 법적 소유권의 일치 등)과 관련하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 선거를 바라보는 마르크스주의의 입장을 선거사회주의로부터 이를 부르주아체제의 음모로 보는 극좌적 노선에 이르기까지 비판적으로 평가했다. 결론적으로 선거와 의회주의는 ‘체제안정화’와 ‘계급투쟁적’ 측면이라는 양면성을 가지고 있으며이 중 어느 측면이 우세한가는 ‘구체적 상황의 구체적 분석’의 문제이며, 선거와같은 제도정치 내의 투쟁과 다양한 현장에서의 ‘공장의 정치’와 ‘거리의 정치’가모두 필요하며 이 둘은 병행되어야 한다.
Abstract
Related to ‘electoral democracy’, this paper analyzes the meanings and limits of election from the perspective of Marxism. For that, the paper shows how the key characteristics of capitalism (such as homology of relations of possession and legal ownership of means of production) enables capitalism to allow universal suffrage and electoral democracy which other pre-capitalist modes of production did not permit. It also critically evaluates different positions in Marxism on electoral socialism.
