마르크스주의적 관점에서 정치이론의 출발점은 자본주의 사회를 역사특수적 형태로 이해해야 한다는 것으로 요약된다. 현대사회란 다른 그 어떤 역사적 시기보다 경제적 삶이 사회적 활동의 중심 내용으로 부각되는, 이른바 ‘경제의 시대’로 이해하는 것에 그 방점이 놓여져야 한다는 것이다. 마르크스에 따르면, 자본주의 사회체제 내에서 경제란 그 자체의 고유성을 지닌 별도의 영역일 뿐만 아니라 여타의 모든 정치사회영역의 내용을 지배하는 핵심적 사회관계이다. 현대 사회에서 이는 자본의 지배로 현상한다. 마르크스는 이 상황을 축약하여 ‘자본은 부르주아사회의 모든 것을 지배하는 경제권력’이라고 표현했다. 이 같은 언급은 마르크스의 사상을 경제사상과 정치사상으로 분리하여 이해하는 종래의 관점이 비판적으로 극복되어야 할 이론적 과제임을 시사해준다. 이는, 자본주의 체제를 분석하는 데 있어 정치적인 것과 사회경제적인 것의 내용을 분별하여 정립하면서도, 동시에 사회경제적 내용을 권력관계의 관점, 즉 자본을 정치적 관점에서 독해하는 입장이 필요함을 드러내는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서 이 글은 마르크스의 정치경제학 비판 구상의 핵심 내용을 사회권 개념의 심화과정으로 이해한다.
Abstract
Several contemporary scholars of Marxism characterized one of the main causes of the general crisis of Marxism as the absence of a theory of politics, i.e., the concept of human rights. To overcome that absence, this article presents an argument that the concept of the “political” that operated in Marx’s thought clarifies the pervasiveness of politics, constructing an autonomous political theory, which is relatively distinct from economic works including Capital. Especially, the main theme of this article is to transform Marx’s Capital into a political theorization. This article intends to trace the concept of the rights that have been forgotten in the mainstream politics of the western Marxism. The significance of the criticism of the political economy of Marx lies not in constructing a new economic theory, but in practicing a political reading against the modern capitalist economy system itself. Therefore, all the substances of this article aim at explaining what the notion of the “political” of the modern capitalistic economic system that Marx understands is, and why, and how the “political” is exposed to the struggles for rights by the social classes.
