이 논문은 “도덕적 해이”나 국가 또는 시장의 실패라는 설명방식을 넘어 최근의 금융위기를 조명할 수 있는 대안적 시각과 분석틀을 발전시키려는 시도이다. 이 논 문이 주목하며 재구성하려는 시각은 마르크스와 케인스의 문제의식으로부터 출발 하고 있다. 마르크스와 케인스는 자본주의적 발전이 본질적으로 위기와 불안정을 내포하고 있다는 사실을 강조한 데서, 그리고 또한 자본주의가 이러한 위기에도 불 구하고 정치적 선택을 통해 새롭게 변화하며 적응하고 전환할 수 있다는 사실에 주목했다는 점에서 일정한 유사성이 있다. 특히 마르크스와 케인스의 독창적인 화 폐론은 그들의 가장 중요한 이론적 공헌이라 할 수 있다. 마르크스는 화폐적 축적이 실물경제로부터 자립화할 수 있는 가능성에 주목한 최초의 정치경제학자이다. 케인 스는 마르크스주의적 전통과는 구별되는 경제학적 범주들을 사용했지만, 화폐적·금 융적 불안정이야말로 현대 자본주의의 근본적인 문제임을 지적했다. 본 논문은 마 르크스와 케인스의 화폐론을 현재적 관점에서 재구성함으로써 작금의 금융위기를 조명할 수 있는 대안적 시각을 모색할 것이다.
Abstract
This article attempts to develop an alternative perspective and theoretical framework on the recent financial crisis beyond the explanations such as “moral hazard” and failure of states or markets. For this purpose, the article reinterprets Marx and Keynes’s theory of money. As is wellknown, there is a certain similarity in Marx and Keynes’s economic and political thought. Marx and Keynes both emphasize the inherent instability and crisis of capitalist development. However, they also recognized that capitalism can be changed through political choices. Especially, Marx and Keynes’s theory of money was the most important theoretical contribution to the political economy. Marx was the first theorist who observed the possibility of the monetarization of economy. Keynes saw the monetary and financial instability as the fundamental problem of modern capitalism. This paper reconstructs Marx and Keynes’s theory of money and contributes to the development of an alternative theoretical perspective on the financial crisis.
