에르네스토 라클라우와 그의 지적 동료인 샹탈 무프가 제창한 포스트마르크스주의는 지난 30년 동안 논쟁의 중심에 있었다. 많은 마르크스주의자들은 그들의 입장을 마르크스주의의 핵심개념인 계급과 생산을 폐기한 지적 배신으로 공격했다. 다른 한편에서는 마르크스주의의 약점인 경제결정론과 계급 환원론을 극복하고 다양한 사회운동을 반자본주의 운동과 결합시킬 수 있는 이론적 돌파구로 환영받았다. 이 논문의 목적은 경직된 마르크스주의가 설명할 수 없는 구체적 정세에서의 이데올로기적 투쟁과 다양한 저항적 주체 형성과정에 주목하기 위해 라클라우와 무프의포스트마르크스주의를 수용하되 그들의 입장이 안고 있는 담론 환원론적 경향으로부터도 거리를 두는 것이다. 담론 환원론적인 경향이 낳은 라클라우의 상대주의적편향은 그의 지적 스승인 루이 알튀세르의 과잉결정 개념을 재도입하여 그의 주장을 재평가하고 그것을 로이 바스카의 비판적 실재론으로 재해석함으로써 교정가능하다는 것이 이 논문의 핵심 주장이다. 기존 상징적 질서의 교란을 나타내는 라클라우의 탈구개념을 ‘충족되지 않은 필요’라는 실재의 체험과 결합시킨다면 포스트마르크스주의의 기여를 국지적 헤게모니적 실천을 넘어 대항헤게모니기획에까지 확대해서 적용할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
A lot of Marxists have attacked Ernesto Laclau and his colleague Chantal Mouffe for their Post-Marxist position rejecting production and class as key concepts for Marxism. On the other hand, their argument has been welcomed as a theoretical breakthrough through which anti-capitalist movements could be combined with diverse social movements by overcoming economic determinism and class reductionism. The goal of this paper is to explore the possibility of a new theoretical paradigm that, while employing Lacalu and Mouffe’s post-Marxism for examining ideological struggles and the constitution of diverse political subjects, could distance itself from the weakness of discourse reductionism. The key argument of this paper is that the latter’s bias of relativism might be modified using Louis Althusser’s idea of over-determination, and then synthesizing it with Roy Bhaskar’s critical realism. Laclau’s notion of dislocation, the moment of crisis of the existing symbolic order, could be thought of as a moment when the realist lived-experiences of ‘unmet needs’ take place. Through this reinterpretation, post-Marxism’s ideas could be mobilized to demonstrate a counter-hegemonic project beyond partial hegemonic practices.
