알튀세르의 ‘실재’와 유물론적 담론 이론을 위한 프로젝트: 라캉과의 논쟁을 중심으로

이 논문은 라캉과 벌였던 구조주의 논쟁을 통해서 알튀세르의 ‘실재’ 개념의 독자성을 논하고, 이를 바탕으로 알튀세르가 구상했던 유물론적 담론이론을 위한 프로젝트의 윤곽과 그 의미를 논한다. 라캉의 실재가 상징질서에 주체가 진입할 때필연적으로 상실하는 자신의 일부로서 ‘이항적 기표’를 지시하는 개념이라면, 알튀세르의 실재는 이데올로기적 주체의 가시성의 장으로부터 실종되는 복잡한 사회적전체 및 그 계급구조라고 이해된다. 라캉과 알튀세르는 공히 주체의 구성에 있어생겨나는 어떤 공백의 존재를 봤지만, 라캉의 경우 이 공백이 지시하는 것은 또 다른 주체(무의식의 주체)였고, 알튀세르의 경우 이 공백이 지시하는 것은 주체가 아닌 또 다른 구조였다. 라캉이 사회의 다양한 영역과 이에 대한 분과학문들을 형식적으로 동일한 기표 논리로 환원하는 구조적 상동성을 주장한 반면, 알튀세르는 사회의 다양한 심급들의 절합을 연구하는 국지이론과 일반이론의 복잡한 체계 안에서가공될 수 있는 (언어학으로 환원될 수 없는) 담론에 대한 이론을 구상했다. 우리는알튀세르의 이러한 구상을 살펴봄으로써 그가 최종적으로 프로이트-마르크스주의적 기획을 기각하게 되는 이유를 알 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the singularity of Althusser’s concept of the real through the prism of the debate that he had with Lacan, and it discusses the implications of his project for a materialist theory of discourse. While Lacan’s concept of the real refers to the part (called “the binary signifier”) that the subject necessarily loses when it enters the symbolic order, Althusser’s concept of the real is understood as the complex social whole and its class structure that are lost from the ideological subject’s field of visibility. Both Althusser and Lacan confirmed the existence of a certain void opened up in the process of the formation of the subject; however, Lacan considered it as another subject (the subject of the unconscious), whereas Althusser formulated it not as another subject but as another structure. For this reason, Lacan argued that there is a structural homology found among all disciplines studying various social domains; in contrast, Althusser tried to establish a theory of discourse irreducible to linguistics, which can be elaborated within the complex system of regional theories and general theories studying the articulations of various social instances. We can see the reason why Althusser finally gave up the Freudo-Marxist project.
