Abstract

This study empirically examines the effect of the COVID-19 stimulus package on electoral behavior by analyzing individual-level survey data. The results demonstrate that voters who perceive that the COVID-19 stimulus package helps their household economy not only have higher positive presidential approval, but also answered their government trust had increased since the COVID-19 outbreak. Furthermore, the effect of the COVID-19 stimulus package on presidential approval weakens as the income level of a respondent increases. For both the presidential approval and government trust, non-partisan voters who do not support neither the government party nor the opposite parties are more likely affected by their perception of the COVID-19 stimulus package compared to partisan voters.
