This paper begins with the question of why ‘Teaching Korean as Foreign Language: KFL’ is having a difficult time to develop as a separate field of study. The paper indicates that the cause of the problem is because the study is relying too much on grammatical tendencies, and the study is also relying on projects that are led by the government. The paper also suggests that in order to successfully deal with the problem, KFL needs to concentrate its research capacity on analyzing the cultural and social phenomena that are based on pragmatic theories. Especially the paper emphasizes the fact that Pragmatics is reflecting a living culture and, it is clearly exposed in linguistic phenomena.
