초록

As a modern theory, semiology was one of the new sciences that began with the emergence of constructivism in the 1960s. Today it's one of the most common research methods in humanism study. There are two branches of tradition in modern semiology usually employed in literature study; one is semiology of the continent by Saussure, and the other is semiology of analytics based on pragmatism by Peirce. In semiology as a method to do poetry study, Saussure's general linguistics claims dominant power. There is "language" to connect modern poetry and semiology. In the encounter, two ideas work together; one is that poetry is one of language arts, and the other is that semiology is a science of language. The problems with semiological literature study based on linguistics today are that linguistics studies sentences and that literature is in the level of talk/discourse beyond sentences. However, poetic language is not a representational system to distribute meanings. When based on communication, poems are regarded as a system of signals to carry certain meanings. However, poems also postpone communication or make it impossible at the same time. Semiology based on linguistics fails to explain the fusion of genres and denies value assessment, one of directions pursued by literature study, by limiting signals within "language." In order to overcome those problems, they should extend semiological researches on language-signals to include texts.
