Abstract
This study observes the need for classics reading education in university liberal educati on and aims to search for class methods for proper classics reading education based on t his. Classics reading has been recognized as being important in both the East and West f rom the past until now. Recently, several universities in Korea have opened classics readi ng lectures. If the intention point of classics reading is more than general classical readin g and is in the expansion of personal ownership and the development of creative knowled ge-producing skills, then associated classes should also be composed so that students can actively search for critical thinking presented by classic works based on text understandin g along with related subjects and further, they must be directed so they can grow, not o nly as learning recipients but as active producers through active owning processes in whi ch critical thinking and topics are intensely developed. For this, integrated classes of readi ng and discussion must be composed. Teachers select 2 to 3 works that connect uniforml y while maintaining their respective identities and guide learners so they can understand themselves and the world and further, discover various types of critical thinking within w orks. Such discovered critical thinking leads to group discussion and debate topics. Discus sions allow interactions between judgements and opinions on various problems discovered through reading processes and they are a process through which values of communities a nd not just individuals are searched for and formed. Through this, learners not only reco gnize problems presented by works but can also experience the expansion of broader own ership through communication with community members.
