Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the factors of intragroup conflict within public sector organizations in South Korea. Particular attention has been placed on the 'factional effects' that examine the link between one's minority or outsider status and the perception of conflict. Drawing on Jehn(1995)'s conceptual definition of intragroup conflict, which classified intragroup conflict into 'task conflict' and 'relationship conflict', this study tested the hypotheses using questionnaires on 240 public sector employees. As a result of statistical analysis based on the model of Ordered Logit. ‘minority status’ based on ‘category’, ‘gender’ and ‘(non) regular’ showed positive relationship with both ‘task conflict’ and ‘relationship conflict’. The theoretical implications of this study, practical implications, and suggestions for future research were also discussed.
