이 논문은 고경민(2022), 『근현대 한국어교재의 통시적 연구』를 중심으로 한국어교육의 태동과 근현대 한국어교육의 발자취를 훑어보고자 한다. 개화기라고 불리는 근대에 들어서 외국인들에게 한국어교육이 시작되고 본격적인 한국어교재가 편찬되기 시작했다. 고경민(2022)은 교재사의 관점에서 한국어교육의 시작과 발전 과정을 다각도로 살피고 있는데, 이 논문은 고경민(2022)의 흐름을 따라 근현대 한국어교육의 모습을 개괄적으로 논의한다. 근현대 한국어교육은 크게 서양인을 대상으로 한 것과 일본인을 대상으로 한 것의 두 가지로 나누어진다. 본고에서는 한국어교육의 역사와 시대 구분을 논의한 후, 근현대 서양인 대상 한국어 학습서와 일본인 대상 한국어 학습서의 편찬과 발전 과정, 내용과 교수법 등을 고경민(2022)을 통해 알아볼 것이다. 고경민(2022)은 근대 이전부터 근현대에 이르기까지 한국어교육의 발전 과정을 다양한 방면에서 고찰하며 독자들에게 보여주고 있다. 향후 이러한 연구를 발판 삼아 한국어교재사 연구가 더욱 활발해지고 폭넓은 방향으로 사유되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the origins of Korean language education and its development in modern and contemporary times, focusing on 고경민(2022)’s work 『A Diachronic Study of Modern and Contemporary Korean Language』 Textbooks. With the onset of the modernization period, commonly referred to as the "Enlightenment Era," Korean language education began for foreigners, and the compilation of formal Korean language textbooks commenced. 고경민(2022) examines the beginnings and development of Korean language education from the perspective of Korean language textbook history, offering a multifaceted analysis. This paper follows the trajectory outlined by 고경민(2022) to provide an overview of Korean language education in the modern and contemporary eras. The history of Korean language education can be broadly divided into two categories: one targeting Westerners and the other targeting the Japanese. This paper will explore the historical context and periodization of Korean language education, and then examine the compilation, development, content, and teaching methods of Korean language textbooks for Western learners and Japanese learners, based on 고경민(2022)’s study. 고경민(2022) thoroughly examines the development of Korean language education from the pre-modern period through to modern times, presenting the evolution of this field from various perspectives. It is anticipated that this research will serve as a foundation for further studies on the history of Korean language textbooks, fostering more active and expansive scholarly inquiry in this area.
